[Noise Floor (II)]

Eleven days later, another broadcast, another thirty-by-thirty. I wasn’t thinking about the first one when I started. Blue and green claimed the surface this time, with pink and yellow elbowing in wherever they saw an opening. The hatching across the whole thing happened almost on its own. Every few seconds I’d scratch through the wet paint so whatever was buried could come up for air. It’s busier than the first. Louder. More voices trying to talk at the same time. I only realized these two were a pair when I set them side by side and they started throwing noise back and forth at each other. The dark one showed up first. Like there’s something in there that gets clearer the more you scratch away.

11일 뒤, 다른 방송, 또 하나의 30 × 30 캔버스. 시작할 때는 첫 번째를 떠올리진 않았다. 이번엔 파랑과 초록이 표면을 가져갔고, 핑크와 노랑이 틈만 나면 비집고 올라왔다. 표면 전체를 덮은 빗살 자국은 거의 저절로 생겼다. 몇 초마다 젖은 물감을 긁어서, 아래 묻힌 것들이 숨 쉴 수 있게 올려보냈다. 두 번째보다 바쁘고, 시끄럽고, 동시에 말하려는 목소리가 더 많았다. 이 둘이 한 쌍이라는 걸 안 건, 나란히 놓고 나서 서로 노이즈를 받아치기 시작했을 때였다. 어두운 쪽이 먼저 나타났다. 긁어낼수록 선명해지는 무언가가 있는 것처럼.
